AUG 5: Haunted Throne

This 10 by 10 yards area is west of the area AUG 2, it looks to be the ruins of a throne room. A strangely untouched and beautiful throne (jewelled, gilded and cushioned) is placed upon a raised platform, flanked by many chairs and benches turned to face the throne as if awaiting orders or speeches. Unlit candlesticks on long metal stands would light up the place if any of them actually had candles set in them.

This area is haunted by a disgruntled ghost, one who loudly lays claim to the throne. As long as no-one tries to take the throne or sit on the throne, the ghost can be talked to about the current dungeon floor and its features. The ghost will claim, unconvincingly, that he was the king who sat on that throne in life. The ghost can be scared off into the ether by rolling the Religious Ritual skill against his effective Will 13. Otherwise, he will hysterically rage against anyone interacting with the throne, which effectively becomes casting a spell at them; the spell is either Rooted Feet, Pain, Strike Blind, Hinder or Panic (GM chooses, the Ghost can spend up to 12 energy on a single given spell at a time, all spells are skill-15).

The throne is a very magical but unpredictable artefact (a person rolling Per + Magery or Thaumatology skill may pick up on its supernatural properties). Anyone sitting on the throne rolls 1d and receives a random effect;

1 – The person on the throne gains +3 HT for 12 hours. (This spell-like effect has Power-25.)

2 – The person on the throne suffers -1 to all rolls until they roll a critical success. (This spell-like effect has Power-25.)

3 – The person on the throne has their valuables and gear stolen, about 2dx$2000 worth of stuff worn or carried disappears from their person. If the rolled number is more than they have, the “leftover debt” is stolen from their allies. If their allies are still too poor, the person on the throne also suffers 3d injury (DR does not protect).

4 – The person on the throne is set aflame for 1d(5) burn per second for 30 seconds or until rolled on the ground.

5 – The person on the throne is healed to full HP and FP instantly.

6 – The person on the throne gains +1 DX for 2d hours. (This spell-like effect has Power-25.)

After the throne bestows 1d+1 effects this way (only one effect per person), the throne permanently dissolves into soft pink light.

A concealed (-7 to find it) heavy wooden locked (-5 Lockpicking modifier) trapdoor is hidden on the floor near the throne, opening it up reveals 4 yards of crawl-space below the floor. The ghost here does not know about it. The crawl-space contains stashed treasure; 100 platinum coins and 50 gold coins loose in a pile.

On the south wall of the area, there’s an unlocked door that leads directly into another area.
