The south door from FEB 18 leads to this area. This room is 10 yards wide and 10 yards long. The area is fully lit (-0 Darkness penalty) by the bright magical gate in the centre of the room and several magical lights in the ceiling.
This area has white marble walls, floor and ceiling. All furniture that was once here was removed, leaving it mostly barren. In the direct middle of the area, there is a magical dimensional gate to the elemental planes open. It is the source of the elementals on this dungeon floor, and only elemental entities can use it. The demons plan to seal it up and thus take over the floor completely. This area is Very High Mana and Nature’s Strength -2. Any random encounters here are elementals coming in from the gate, the random chance of such an encounter in this room is at +3. Using magic to change or destroy the portal in any way is resisted by an effective skill of 20.
The 5 yards around the elemental portal are boobytrapped with mystical runes to keep the demons away. The runes can be detected by a roll of Per + Magery or Per-based Thaumatology, a follow-up IQ-based Thaumatology roll reveals what they do. The rune trigger by proximity, automatically targeting anyone (not an elemental) walking up to the portal. The runes inflict 3d burning damage (natural DR protects but armour does not) on those activating them before rearming themselves after 10 seconds. Within 1 yard of the dimensional gate, additional runes will instead attempt to teleport non-elementals to random areas of the dungeon elsewhere (victims resist effective skill 15 with Will, the GM may choose exactly where each time) upon making physical contact with the runes (DX-5 to avoid stepping on them). Elementals are all safe from these runes.
Hanging in a big display case mounted on the south wall of the area, there is a mirrored and blade-edged (roll Shield -1 to attack, sw-2 cut damage) dwarven medium shield (worth $1200, weighs 30 lbs.), a meteoric light shield (worth $2500, weighs 4 lbs.), an elven short bow ($850, 2 lbs.), a large hip quiver ($30, 2 lbs.) filled with 10 (worth $6 each, weighs 1 lbs. total) fine arrows, and a silver-coated poleaxe ($360, 10 lbs.) on hooks.
There are no other exits out of this room.
